Abstract

Glucocorticoids continue to have an important role in the treatment of many connective tissue and allergic diseases. In the 1980s, knowledge of how glucocorticoids function increased enormously, in parallel with the great growth of knowledge in immunology and molecular biology. We have concentrated on these new findings and have confined our review mainly to reports on human subjects or cells, as interspecies differences occur in some glucocorticoid activities.
