Abstract
Forming effective alliances for the commercialization of public-sector technology is the goal and the mission of both today’s federal laboratories and the businesses seeking a profit from the sale of products and/or services resulting from the technology. Success will require an understanding of how the federal laboratories operate as well as an understanding of how the private sector must satisfy market demands for products and/or services in order to make a profit and thus survive.
