Abstract
The last two decades have witnessed a growing societal concern with stress and its psychological toll. In fact, research on stress has grown exponentially during this period; the issues examined touch almost every specialization in basic and applied social science (Coyne & Downey, 1991). Researchers have examined a wide range of Stressors, including general Stressors involving acute life events (Thoits, 1983), role strains (Pearlin, 1989), and chronic difficulties (Lazarus & Folkman, 1984), and such specific Stressors as technological disaster (Baum, Gatchel, & Schaeffer, 1983).
