Psychophysiological Assessment of PTSD

Abstract

The authors of the previous chapter reviewed technologies that may be used to assess post-traumatic stress disorder as evidenced in the psychological domain. They argued for a multidimensional battery in the assessment of PTSD; clearly, there is value in combining DSM-criteria-based interviews and objective tests to create a diagnostic opinion. These authors also suggested that the use of projective assessment techniques adds a unique richness and context to the discovery of diagnostic criteria. Finally, the authors of Chapter 7 suggested that psychophysiological assessment technologies may be considered when completing the assessment battery. Our purpose in this chapter is to introduce and examine the use of psychophysiological technologies in the assessment of PTSD.
