Abstract

Uric acid stones account for about 4% and cystine stones for 1% of all upper urinary-tract calculi. They both have in common the fact that they are susceptible to dissolution by oral medication as well as by directcontact dissolution (chemolitholysis) utilizing percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN) tubes or ureteral catheters.
