Physical Properties and Structural Chemistry of YBa2Cu3Ox Prepared by a Defined Oxygen Sorption Procedure

Abstract

Samples of YBa2Cu3Ox (6.Ø<x<7.Ø) were prepared by a UHV desorption — absorption procedure. Employing this technique it is possible to obtain controlled and reproducible oxygen contents in order to study physical and structural properties correlated to the oxygen stoichiometry. Cell constants, phase transformations and superconducting transition temperatures are given as a function of oxygen content and/or temperature. Thermal desorption spectra of differently treated samples are compared and evolution of surface adsorbates and structurally bonded oxygen is discussed. The importance of in situ reloading of samples used for surface sensitive experiments is pointed out.
