Two-Stage Degradation of Parathion by Flavobacterium Sp. and Pseudomonas Sp.

Abstract

Degradation of parathion by strains of Flavobacterium sp. and Pseudomonas sp. is a two-step process. In the first stage, parathion is degraded constitutively to para-nitrophenol. In the second step, the presence of para-nitrophenol induces its degradation after a lag period.
