Abstract

Microbial volatilization of selenium (Se) was evaluated as a potential strategy for detoxifying Se-affected soils. The factors governing Se volatilization were investigated, employing a 75Se labeling technique with activated carbon traps. Three fungi that volatilized selenite and selenate were isolated from seleniferous agricultural soils and identified as Ulocladium tuberculatum, Penicillium citrinum, and Acremonium falciforme.
