Abstract

The fluorescent dye, 4 (4-diethylamino styryl)-N-methyl pyridinium iodide (4-Di-2-ASP), stains living neuromuscular terminals without producing evident damage (Magrassi, Purves and Lichtman, J. Neuroscience, 7: 1207, 1987) and has been used to follow the structure of these endings over long periods of time (Lichtman, Magrassi and Purves, J. Neuroscience, 7: 1215, 1987).
