From the foregoing discussion of major organizing dimensions for classifying family assessment procedures, it is clear that many subgroups of instruments can be defined. Table 1 (p. 24) provides an overview of a relatively complete classification system in which instruments are first grouped into report versus observational procedures, and then within each major division, are divided into more narrowly defined subsets.
