A 2-layer vertical process model of the seasonal cycle of phytoplankton and nitrogen, driven by a model of the seasonal thermocline, with a one-day time-step, was applied to the Northwest European Shelf. The thermocline model is driven by meteorology and M2 tides, and provides the biological model with daily thermocline depths and incident solar irradiance.
