Modeling in situ Phytoplankton Absorption Spectra from Spectral Reflectance: Effects of Spectral Backscatter

Abstract

Mechanistic models of marine primary production require a spectrum of phyto-plankton absorption coefficients as a primary forcing function, but direct in situ measurement of these coefficients is difficult. A two-component model was developed to determine spectral phytoplankton absorption coefficients from in situ measurements of spectral irradiance.
