Usually the clinical picture presented by patients with PTSD is not restricted to those symptoms and clusters outlined in the diagnostic criteria. An understanding of secondary features of the disorder is important for a variety of reasons. First, it promotes a more total understanding of the patient’s problems and difficulties, and thus aids in treatment planning and more holistic therapeutic intervention.
