Lung Carbonic Anhydrase

  • Chapter
The Carbonic Anhydrases

Abstract

In 1946, there was considered to be no carbonic anhydrase (CA) in the lung except that in the blood.6 Since 1952, CA has been reported to be present in lung tissue,1,4,14,25,27,29 and it was noted that alveolar CO2 appeared to be rapidly equilibrated with lung tissue, implying the presence of CA.
