Metamodeling: More Applications

In this chapter, we continue our excursion in the world of metamodeling. We show how metamodeling can be applied to study a reading program and to understand metacognition and critical thinking skills. We return to the issue of innovation which was briefly discussed at the end of Chapter 10. We discuss how to metamodel creativity in science and in art. We then use metamodeling to explain various aspects of the discipline of information systems, as well as the consequences of ignoring metamodeling and designing information systems at the wrong level of abstraction. The tendency to overlook metamodeling also helps to explain certain epistemological problems encountered by scientific disciplines such as artificial intelligence.
