Abstract
Since its appearance in 1859, many of the ideas and observations published by Darwin in the Origin of Species have served as the unifying program for biologists. I have endeavored to understand one small subset of the material presented by Darwin in three of his published works of 1839, 1844, and 1859. This material consists of observations about the taxonomic identity and biogeographic affinities of the terrestrial and marine molluscan fauna of the Galápagos Islands.
