Abstract

Cognitive-behavioral approaches, in general, and RET, in particular, have been criticized for overfocusing on cognitive dimensions and cognitive techniques while inadequately dealing with the affective dimensions of patients’ problems (e. g., Corey, 1982). The six-stage model outlined in this chapter under the acronym of REGIME emphasizes the affective, cognitive, and action dimensions of behavior. By highlighting microcounseling skills, the cognitive BC link, goal setting, and a multimodal approach to both assessment and intervention, it also sequences the therapeutic processes that are necessary for positive outcomes.
