Abstract
Few intellectual achievements truly qualify as “paradigm shifts.” However, as argued by the eminent Hans Strupp (1982) in his foreword to the Handbook of Interpersonal Psychotherapy, the new emphasis on interpersonal transactions—between patient and therapist, patient and family members, and patient and other significant persons—and their intrapsychic consequences, perhaps does so qualify.
