An Overview of the Psychodynamic Approach

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Criminal Justice and Public Safety ((CJPS))

Abstract

Human beings like to congratulate themselves for their capacity to use reason and to behave logically. Reason, we like to tell ourselves, is what separates us from animals. We regard our behavior as the product of the application of logic in our daily lives, and see our minds as not merely guided by reason but dominated by it. As a result we are superior to other animals precisely because our intellect is firmly grounded in the rules of logic and our behavior is based on the application of those rules.
