Symptomatology, Diagnosis, and Treatment

  • Chapter
Giardia and Giardiasis

Abstract

The specific pathogenic mechanisms of Giardia lamblia are not yet understood. It also remains to be explained why some individuals become acutely ill and remain so while others remain virtually asymptomatic. In discussing clinical features of giardiasis, it should be emphasized that those infected present a spectrum of symptomatology depending to a great extent on the duration of infection.
