Abstract

Traditionally, parasites have been classified on the basis of morphologic criteria and a species was thus defined as one which is “consistently morphologically different from another” species (Cheng, 1973). However, when only minor morphologic variations are observed among specimens sometimes assigned to different species, the question of what constitutes a species becomes more complex.
