Morphology Modification of Polymer Blend Films by Electric Field

Abstract

In this study, we consider the morphology evolution of immiscible blend of polystyrene (PS) and poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) in solution under uniform electric field. When the electric field strength is weak, the dispersed phase deforms slightly from spherical shape and the degree of deformation is proportional to the electrical Weber number. At higher electric field, the dispersed phase is highly elongated and finally fragmented. The linear stability analysis shows that the presence of copolymer made dispersed phase more deformable and unstable.
