The Present State of, and Future Prospects for, Large-Area Full-Color DC PDPs

Abstract

Since 1991, Hi-Vision(HDTV) programs have been transmitted via a broadcast satellite in Japan. A metre-wide display of high quality is indispensable to fully enjoy the sensation of reality provided by a Hi-Vision picture. Several types of Hi-Vision receivers are now on the market. Conventional receivers with CRTs and projection displays are, however, too heavy and bulky. Plasma display panels(PDPs) are considered the most promising for a hang-on-the-wall Hi-Vision large-screen display because of their easy fabrication and other features such as wide viewing angle, fast response and good color reproduction characteristics.
