Abstract

The product is the key to the efficiency of the FAS. It is therefore important that the design of that product is in sympathy with automated assembly practices and philosophies. These philosophies are not difficult to accept or acknowledge since all of their tenets encourage simplicity, rationalization, and cost effectiveness. Any attempt to automatically assembly a product that has not been designed or modified with automation in mind will be disastrous, since all of the robots and sophisticated control equipment will not be able to compensate for the inefficiencies of that assembly’s processes and procedures. Further, the system is unlikely to be cost effective, since the capital equipment will not result in improved quality or output of production.
