Politics and Pollution: Political Solutions to a Deteriorating Environment
The waters of Lake Baikal are as polluted as those of Lake Erie. Smoke chokes people in Budapest and Tokyo, Mexico City and New York. Automobile pollution has destroyed the clean mountain air of small towns in provincial Italy. These are the symptoms of the industrial age; industrialization is destroying humanity regardless of race, religion or sex, ideology or belief. Industrialization, modernization and urbanization have begun to exhibit serious tendencies of failure just when the lofty dream of bringing health and abundance to the people of the world seems within reach.
