Abstract
During the two decades since the discovery of Norwalk virus in 1972(1) and rotavirus in 1973,(2) the viral etiology of acute nonbacterial gastroenteritis has been established and a considerable number of viruses are now recognized pathogens, responsible for medically important diarrheal illness.
