Abstract
This chapter continues the comparative family housing studies offered at our last seminar (Howell, 1990). At that time the focus was mainly on incidents illustrative of family dynamics in the socialization of children in Japanese and U.S. homes. Theories of child development were invoked to explain what was perceived in panel households.
