Successful commercialisation of R&D outcomes depends primarily on an evolving partnership between science and commercial agencies. An ex post analysis of the CIDR technology identifies the significance of R&D partnerships in development programmes. A second case study uses an action research methodology to extend understanding of the partnering process in relation to resource management issues. Insights are reported in  following each narrative.
