Abstract
The analysis of the social psychological underpinning of ethnonationalism provides the clue for its apprehension. This does not mean that the concrete manifestations of ethnonationalism can be fully understood beyond the social, political, historical, cultural, and economic context of its upsurge and spread. The point is that in the expressions of ethnonationalism some patterns of behavior, thought, and feeling can be identified that are common to a number of variously labeled ways of relating to one’s own group and the members of other group(s).
