Combined Effect of Taurine and Ox Bile on Biliary Flow

Abstract

Taurine, similar to glycine, is an important amino acid for bile acid conjugation. It has been reported that taurine has an effect on metabolic function of the liver1. Animal bile has been used for a long time as a Chinese traditional medicine for stomach and intestinal disorders. We have previously examined various animal biles, such as ox, bear and pig bile, for their cholagogic effect in anesthetized rats. The results showed that the cholagogic effect of ox bile was significantly higher than that of other animal biles2.
