Abstract
The term discourse, as currently used, covers two areas of linguistic concern: the analysis of dialogue, especially of live conversation, and the analysis of monologue. In the parlance of many, discourse covers the former, and with some of us at least, discourse covers the latter as well. Actually, analysis of dialogue and analysis of monologue are separable but related concerns to both of which discourse analysis can properly be applied.
