Abstract

JAMSTEC (Japan Marine Science and Technology Center) has been engaged in developing saturation diving technology since its founding in 1971 (1). Fifty-four on land and offshore experimental dives have been completed successfully by the end of 1996. Forty-eight of the dives were Heliox (helium-oxygen) dives and six were Nitrox (nitrogen and oxygen) dives with depths ranging between 10 meters and 300 meters.
