Flow of Incompressible Newtonian Fluids in Pipes

Newtonians are fluids in which the relative slip of fluid elements past each other is proportional to the shear on the fluid, as shown in Fig. 2.1. All gases, liquid water, and liquids of simple molecules (ammonia, alcohol, benzene, oil, chloroform, butane, etc.) are Newtonians. Pastes, emulsions, biological fluids, polymers, suspensions of solids, and other mixtures are likely to be non-Newtonian.* This chapter deals with Newtonians.
