Abstract
Shelly’s experiences in attempting to seek help for depression point to the inadequacies in the ways many physicians and other health care professionals conceive, diagnose, and treat depression. At the heart of the problem often seems to be a lack of accurate, updated information about the nature of depression, which in turn leads to a breakdown in the diagnostic and treatment processes.
