Abstract
PHP 8, released in late November 2020, is a major update of one of the most popular programming languages, deployed on more than four in every five web sites that use a server-side language. It’s platform-neutral, so the same code runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. PHP is relatively simple to learn. Many of the new features in PHP 8 make the code more concise and efficient. This introductory chapter also offers advice on what to look for in a script editor for developing with PHP.
