Abstract

In previous chapters, we have discussed not only the basics of migration/integration but also the types of documents required to develop a communication flow and strategic plan. The central theme through all this is that detail matters. And maintaining this level of detail is nowhere more critical than in the hub of your design known as the extraction, transformation, and load (ETL) middleware. We covered the features of this component to some degree in Chapter 2 and the accompanying Source-to-Target mapping spreadsheet in Chapter 4. Because it has such a significant impact as to the success or failure of your project, this chapter will focus on the options available to you for choosing the right tools and discuss several of the ETL tools currently in the marketplace that will best fit your integration needs.
