Abstract
At this point, we no doubt recognize that starting migration and integration activities are more than just pushing a button and watching data flow from a source to a destination. The process is a reflection of the organization, requiring collaboration across departments, with each representative bringing to the table a unique impression, concern, and perhaps more than one outspoken opinion. Some of these representatives may know very little about what they need in terms of data, while others may profess to know more than they do. Invariably, everyone will need to be on the same page when it comes to building a system integration. The purpose of this chapter is to expose several of the key terms native to the process. By having this common definition from the outset, teams will have productive conversations regarding the integration process components while avoiding much of the confusion that typically accompanies technical solutions.
