Abstract

One of Salesforce’s most valued characteristics is its ability to be tailored to meet an organization’s needs rather extensively without requiring a single line of code. Salesforce has provided a number of powerful tools – including workflow rules, validation rules, and formula fields – that depend on formulas for the purpose of declarative development. However, with the high level of control that is granted to noncoders through formulas comes a potential trade-off with configurability. Fortunately, you can mitigate what you have to give up by taking advantage of custom settings and custom metadata types in your solution development.
