Recognition and Measurement of Circular Objects
This chapter describes a method of recognizing and measuring the parameters of objects that have a boundary shape similar to a circle. We use a modified method of least squares I developed some years ago for checking the quality of solder bumps in wafers. Here we describe a development of this method that can be applied to any color or grayscale images to recognize objects with a boundary that approximates a circle. The method calculates the estimates of the radius and the center coordinates. Figure 12-1 shows an example using the method for sorting apples according to their sizes.
