Abstract

The term telecommunication was first coined by Edouard Estaunie´ in 1904.1 It is a fusion of Greek word “tele” meaning “distant” and the Latin word “communicatio,” meaning “to share.” Telecommunications is also known as telecom, and it is the science and technology of communication or sharing thoughts and ideas over a long distance. Since its inception in form of optical telegraph, modern-day telecommunication has evolved significantly both in terms of technology as well as an industry. Modern-day’s telecommunication sector is a vast industry that comprises companies that provide hardware, software, and services necessary to facilitate information transfer.
