Abstract

Let’s start probing Octave’s abilities to perform simple arithmetic operations first and then dive into complex calculations. Keep in mind that the speed of execution depends on the user’s machine’s hardware. Older computers having less RAM and slower processors will take longer to execute a program than newer computers. Speed also depends on the processor’s availability for requests from Octave. Most of the newer computers perform calculations at lightening speeds, such that as soon as you press Enter, you can see the output of these simple calculations. But a lot of steps are happening behind the scenes and you must understand the process to optimally utilize both the computing resources at hand and Octave as a program.
