Abstract
In order to troubleshoot something, you have to know how it works. Consider a race car mechanic; she needs to know how the engine fits together and what makes it work, in order to troubleshoot why it is not working as desired. Also, race car mechanics do say, “As desired.” Knowing how things fit together is why in the previous seven chapters, we’ve covered quite a bit of information, not in hopes of turning you into a female race car mechanic, but to better acquaint you with the underpinnings of SharePoint. In those chapters, we saw what changes SharePoint brings to a Windows server’s file system, IIS, and registry. We talked about the back-end SQL server. I spoke at some length about search and modifying the search topology.
