Abstract

Content management systems are the tools required by firms for effectively structuring a huge amount of heterogeneous information. Having such type of information management system allows that: documents or assets can be stored in an organized manner using metadata, versioning, check-in etc.; a web presence can be setup considering workflow scenarios for editing and approving pages, including different types of permission level, and queried content; or, business records can be managed and analyzed effecively. Due to the everincreasing amount of heterogeneous information firms have to deal with, such systems expired high importance during last decade. In turn, nowadays content management systems exist that have specialized on managing and publishing one particular type of information, or focus on providing an all-rounder solution for all tasks. In addition, the systems existing recently are based on different license models, and are available onpremise or in the cloud. So in the end, a huge market exists providing very different content management systems. To expire the types of systems existing, and its most important elements and techniques, this chapter is presented.
