An Organizational Network

  • Phani Raj Tadimety

Today’s large and complex global organizations need to link their units electronically, across continents, for quick communications. This chapter introduces an enterprise- or organization-wide area network that could be used by such an organization. The larger “parent” network consists of smaller local area networks (LANs) in different locations, interconnected by routers. To understand the layers of networks and how their naming/address systems function, a hypothetical network is developed in this chapter that will then be the reference network for explaining the concepts presented in subsequent chapters of this book.
