Exploring Design Techniques for 3D Printing

As you learned in  Chapter 1, the applications for 3D printing (additive manufacturing) are extremely diverse. With a very broad range of industrial applications being impacted by 3D printing (which include the fine art, aerospace, automotive, toy design, construction, fashion, medical devices, entertainment, and culinary arts industries) and with many more applications that have yet to be discovered, it would appear that almost any object being manufactured using traditional (subtractive) methods can now just as easily be manufactured with 3D printing. This is enlightening news to the many artists, designers, and engineers on the quest to 3D print their first objects. Since it appears nothing is off-limits, many makers are now eager to learn the design techniques being used for the 3D-printing process so they too can be part of this manufacturing revolution.
