Crystalline acetanilide (ACN) is the subject of numerous theoretical and experimental work due to two remarkable features1, 2:
  1. a)

    amide groups display bond distances similar to those occuring in polypeptides and

  2. b)

    the appearance of the unconventional amide I band at 1650 cm−1.
