Abstract

As we have already mentioned, cyclophosphates are characterized by a cyclic PnO3n anion built by n corner-sharing PO4 tetrahedra. Ring anions of this type are presently well characterized for n = 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 12. For each family of cyclophosphates, corresponding to a particular value of n, the methods of chemical preparation are very specific, and, with a few exceptions, the development of these methods required the optimization of a procedure for the chemical preparation of an appropriate starting material. We will present for each family of cyclophosphate a short survey of its development and will describe as much detail as possible the specific methods of chemical preparation.
