Demands Imposed on Systems Science by Complexity

  • John N. Warfield

Abstract

All human knowledge is constructed by human beings as collections of models. Models are of three types: formal, informal, and hybrid (a mixture of formal and informal). Formal models are of three types: numerant, structural, and hybrid (a mixture of numerant and structural). Structural models can be linear or nonlinear. A linear structural model is a drawing that is isomorphic to a directed graph, such that a directed line can be drawn passing through all vertexes and lines without touching any of them more than once.
