The Use of Soft Systems Methodology as an Introductory Vehicle
Chapter
Abstract
This paper is an attempt to put into perspective the impact and value of Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) (Checkland, 1981) as a watershed in the growth of insight into the dynamics of problem resolution, as an instrument of teaching (and understanding) in the field of systems development and as a milestone on the road to a genuinely emancipatory (and hence, ultimately, more effective) approach to the forming of coalitions to tackle the many problems confronting us.
