The form of corrosion can be defined according to the nature of the corrosion, e.g., galvanic corrosion and crevice corrosion, or according to the effect of the corrosion on surface morphology, e.g., general corrosion and pitting corrosion, or according to its effect on bulk properties, e.g., intergranular corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. The corrosion forms that are commonly found to occur on zinc are general corrosion, galvanic corrosion, pitting corrosion, and intergranular corrosion.
